Born in Famagusta in 1986, Nihat started playing the violin at the age of eleven and moved to Ankara for further studies when he was thirteen. Only two years after he started playing the violin, he was offered the “Playing for Peace Award” from the Applehill Chamber Music Players for a month long course & concerts in the United States. He graduated with 1st Class Honours and special prizes from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatoire. He joined to the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Turkey after his graduation.
As a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, Orchestra Purpur, Verbier Festival Orchestras and guest artist with the City of Birmingham Symphony and London Symphony Orchestras, he played at the Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall in the UK, Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus, Munich, Bremen, Cologne, Hamburg, Dusseldorf Concert Halls, Frankfurt Alte Oper amongst other major venues in Germany, Vienna Musikverein, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Paris Champs-Elysess Theatre, Luxembourg Philharmonie amongst other prestigious concert halls in Europe, different venues in Moscow and Shanghai Expo Hall.
He appeared as a soloist with major Turkish orchestras including the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. As a member of “Duo Attitude” he performed in the UK, Turkey and both parts of Cyprus with pianist Emil Duncumb including a recent recital at the “Shoe Factory”. Nihat recevied great critics from leading artists Maxim Vengerov, Ani Kavafian, Thomas Brandis and many more after performing at their masterclasses. Nihat studied with Marinkovic and Chilingirian at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After completing his Orchestral Artistry masters at the Guildhall School in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra, he was awarded ”Artist Fellowship” and he enjoys leading different ensembles where he had the chance to work with Sir Simon Rattle amongst other great artists.
He is the leader of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Cyprus since 2015. As its co-artistic director, Nihat’s bi-communal initiative with Greek Cypriot oboe artist Natalie Neophytou “Cyprus Chamber Orchestra” received the prestigious “Stelios Cyprus Bi-Communal Award 2016″.
